Trevor Win'E 2008 Memorial Day Challenge
Our fundraiser on Memorial Day was a full success. We had five 4-man teams going at it ... 300 Pull-ups, 400 Push-ups, 500 Sit-ups and 600 Squats. Every person paid $50 = $1000, plus we got additional donations in the amount of $450, so the CrossFit Cincinnati total to buy cooling vests ($200/piece) for soldiers in Iraq & Afghanistan was $1450. Great job, guys!

CURIOUS ABOUT CROSSFIT?

It's fairly simple when you break it down - the harder you work at something, the more you get out of it! Yes, I know, there are all kinds od studies to prove that every exercise protocol works (even something as silly as "super slow") and opposing studies that show those same protocols don't work. So, I won't even try to make a believer out of you with science!

Basically it works like this: At CrossFit Cincinnati you're going to work hard, REALLY HARD! Take a traditional strength workout and amp it up with explosive movements. Then eliminate rest breaks and turn it into a VO2 max raising, heart pounding, interval cardio metabolic conditioning workout. All the while you're saving yourself from the the agony of "mainstream" cardio (i.e. being the hamster on the treadmill or elliptical) and  - to top it off - shaving a half hour off of your gym time. Wouldn't you choose the blue pill?

Yes, it will hurt at first. In fact, it will hurt A LOT! I started training exclusively with CrossFit workouts May 22, 2007. During the first week of October 2007 a couple of members here at Das Gym commented that I should compete at the upcoming Monster Mash. I hadn't given any thought about a bodybuilding competition at this time, but out of curiosity had my bodyfat tested, since I was sticking to a pretty healthy diet. To my surprise it showed that I was already at 6.3%. I made an appointment with the promoter of the show, Rick Ruether, whom I have known for years. I figured he wouldn't just tell me to go for it if there was no realistic chance. I saw him on October 10, his reading was around 5.4% and he said I'd definitely be ready for the show in 2 1/2 weeks. That weekend I had to fly out to Flagstaff for my CF Certification, so dieting got somewhat tricky, but I managed. October 27.. show time.. all CF workouts until Wednesday before the show, plus extra posing practice thrown in. I competed in both the Master's over 40 and won my class there, then the Men's Open Lightweight class, where I placed second. What a difference only having to diet 3 weeks compared to my normal 14 or so! Give it a try your self... getting ready for a show or just to get in shape, CrossFit WORKS!
